But he has a MyBlaster Serial IR transmitter. MyBlaster has no config for Coolsat. I tried make it learn but got nowhere. It learned the same code for all the keys.

Mythtv-users Dish Network people will tell you to set up lirc and make a homemade transmitter and all that jazz but the easy way is to go buy a MyBlaster serial.

  • I ve been using a MyBlaster with my DishTV receiver for some time now with no LIRC toggles a single serial port control line up to 56,000 times per.

06-18-2004, PM I bought a MyBlaster serial IR transmitter because well I don t know why I didn t just buy the standard Actisys. I guess I like a challenge.

You can download a windows-only remote control app from their site, but no Linux support. I had planned on writing a LIRC driver for it but I found out the device is pretty smart and works on a higher level, handling the pulse modulation for you. I wrote a user-land app for changing channels based on their windows example code and sent it back to them for them to include on their site.

This device works well from a good distance 20 feet as it is a CIR device, and works under Linux for use with MythTV with my code. It also requires and external power supply included. It does not receive very well though, as its receive mode is generally only useful to learn remote codes this is the way it was designed. If for some reason you need to shoot an IR signal over a long distance, this is the device for you. Could you post the code. 2 Could you post the code.  –

I recently purchased a MyBlaster as well and wondered if you could post the code you created to control it.

I also bought a MyBlaster back when I was testing some windows products and really liked how well it controlled my satellite receiver. I was surprised to find no linux support so I decided to write my own driver. The guys over at my.tv were kind enough to let me look at their code which made the task much easier. The code has been in beta for about 6 months so its ready to go. The current version is 1.4 which you can get at the URL below or from the my.tv web site in a few days.

Enjoy. Can myblaster.pl send to two different dish boxes 4 Can myblaster.pl send to two different dish boxes –

09-23-2004, PM I currently have the USB_UIRT transmitter sending to one dishnetwork box. I am wanting to switch to the myblaster to simplify the code I am using. The dishnetwork boxes can used different ir remote codes and I have mine setup that way. How would I go about telling the myblaster.pl to use one ir code for one box and another for the second box. I see that it has a database and uses 755 or 775 something like that for the dishnetwork receiver. That probably works for the default ir addressing but how would I tell it to send to a dishnetwork box but use ir code set 2. I want to be able to control both boxes with one ir.

- James 5 09-23-2004, PM I am not aware of any dishnetwork systems that have multiple remote codes and as far as I know, there is no support for it in the myblaster library of remote codes. All I do is tell it what code to send, not the actual bitstream If you really do have a unit that supports multiple codes you will need to use the learning feature of the MB. My current driver does not support that mode yet but if there is enough call for it, I will write the code. It looks to be a pain in the rear.

You may find that doing a code search will reveal another code that works on your altered address remote. My solution was to simply purchase 2 blasters and then provide optical isolation between each receiver. Sheet of cardboard between units Multiple receiver codes 6 Multiple receiver codes –

Thanks for the info. I suspect that only the default address is supported for those devices using the built-in codes. Using the learning mode should work for you. I am currently working on the learning code but its not even alpha stage yet. I will be needing beta testers in a few weeks. If you are interested, drop me a note and I will include you in the beta program. You need to supply the myblaster, sorry

I spoke with the people over ay my.tv and they will be releasing a new version blaster in the near future. The new version is USB only and does not require the use of an external converter or power supply. I dont have any info on new features or new codes at this time. They are going to send me one to test once they arrive and I will post my results here.

I m interested in purchasing the USB blaster from my.tv but want to make sure I can get it working. 9 10-14-2004, PM The standard old usb model already works fine with the drivers. I have not yet received one of the new ones to test. My contact in the company says they are shipping me one so I should know in a few daysl. 10 10-18-2004, PM Follow up post on the new USB only MyBlaster model T-8200. I received one over the weekend and have bad news to report. The new blaster is not compatible with linux. The decided to make a custom USB device out of it and that coding is beyond my skills so it will have to be left to the manufacturer to make a linux driver. They have nobody on staff who knows linux

I strongly suggest that you NOT get the new T-8200 and that you stick to the older serial port version. If you do not have a serial port available, get a standard USB/serial converter cable. I am waiting to hear back from My.TV about continued availability of the serial device. Will report back once I know more.

11 10-19-2004, PM When setting up the Serial to USB converter version, what do you set the device to. /dev/ttyUSBX. And how about the baud rates and so on.

12 10-20-2004, AM The first converter will be ttyUSB0. The second ttyUSB1 etc. Leave all the baud rate info the same. The adaptor becomes transparent as far as the operation of the blaster. 13 10-20-2004, AM Reporting back on the availability of the serial myblaster. They are going to keep it and the standard converter cables in stock for us Linux people. Good news for us Time::HiRes 14 Time::HiRes –

11-08-2004, PM Could not find an installable version of the Time::HiRes module and not knowing a lot about perl had to figure a different way to get it. This is what I did, hopefully it will save others some time.

root cd /.cpan/build/Time-HiRes-1.65

Note: The first time you run perl -MCPAN -e shell it asks for config info or give the option to attempt to use defaults, I used the defaults and it worked okay. 15 11-19-2004, AM I just got the serial version of the blaster hoping it would work without much problem using the perl scripts. However, I had no luck. The scripts seem to run without problems, the blaster seems to respond with RECV: 0x01 1 in verbose mode but nothing happens. I don t see the red led in the blaster blinking and, of course, the receiver Dish is not responding. I tried on two different FC2 boxes. Any clue as to what could be wrong.

PS: I hate to say it but the blaster works fine in Win2K. 16 11-19-2004, AM Originally Posted by kostas

You also need to have perl:Time-HiRes installed before it will work. 17 12-02-2004, AM I sure did. Thanks a lot for the hint. It now works as advertised Status of Learning 18 Status of Learning –

Oh, and thanks for all your hard work. Current status is stalled. For some reason the command provided in their example code does not work. I need to set up a windows machine and monitor the output from the windows driver to see what is wrong with the example code. I hope to be able to do some work on it during my xmas-new years break. Once I get past that stumbling block the rest of the code should be easy.

Bill Intermittent channel changes 20 Intermittent channel changes –

01-24-2005, PM I have not been able to get this blaster to work reliably with my Dish box and linux. I was wondering if it could be related to me using the RF extender version instead of the standard one. I have 802.11 and wireless keyboards / phones / joystick and thought maybe it is dropping digits because of that.

Is there anyway that I can modify my base unit to add direct ir control instead of using the RF extender. It looks like the place where the IR would normally plug in has a cover on it. Maybe I just need to add the jack.

- James Armstrong It is quite possible that you are experiencing RF interference between all your devices. All my experience has been with the standard wired device. One way to check would be to disable all your other wireless devices and see if it works reliably. With dishnetwork, the commands are quite long and the default emit_time variable may not be long enough with all the delays associated with wireless conversion. Currently its set to 0.333 seconds so a setting of 0.400 may make a difference. Another thing to check is to make sure that you have the Time-HiRes perl module loaded. If its missing all the delays will default to 1 second which is the shortest time allowed by the stock time module. As far as the modification goes, it may work as long as they stuffed all the parts onto the board not very likely

PS - I have run RS-232 over a 100ft phone line cable with good results so converting to a wired system may not be out of the question. All you need is the RX 2, TX 3 and GND 7 connections. I actually ran power down the 4th wire shared ground for power return. For best results pick your wires so that the ground wire is physically located between the rx and tx wires. This reduces cross-talk on long runs. Good luck Re: MyBlaster –

PLEASE HELP.. Its possible that your receiver is not supported or that you have a permissions issue. Here are some things to check. Are you sure of the com port number. Did you remember to set both the device type and code number. Have you tried to control another device.

What happens when you enter MyBlaster.pl 200 at the command prompt. Any error messages.

I am trying to find time to redo some of the code to better fit in with the older command logic and it would be nice to know the code actually works

ImL Thank you for the reply I didn t realize that script added the learning capability I definitely see that now. For the most part it has worked I have a couple of keys that are acting a little weird but I think I just need to play with it. The only thing that hasn t worked is the 0 button. When I try to use MyBlaster.pl learn Amino 0 it tells me No key name to learn at. /MyBlaster.pl line 199., it s probably because perl is seeing it as the value false or NULL instead of zero. I ll try to hack it up a bit and see what I can do for that, other than that it seems to work.

The only other thing I can see right now is that the send command matches the key numbers in the. keys file it creates so if you do MyBlaster.pl send Amino 115 then it tries to match 115 instead of looking at 1 as a single code to send and the next 1 as a single code to send and then the 5 as single code to send it s looking for a name of 115 in the file and that returns NULL, I m totally sure how MythTV sends the channel to MyBlaster but I would think that it would send as one number like 115 so we d have to put some knowledge in the script to send each number indivisually to the script, that should be too hard though. I m going to go keep dinking with it.

02-04-2006, PM Thanks for the advice, wmunson. It took a little detective work but I finally found the right code for my cable box for MyBlaster.pl. I can change channels just fine when I call the perl script from the command line, but mythtv doesn t seem to be able to change channels using it. I did put

in as the external channel change command in mythsetup and MyBlaster.pl is in /usr/local/bin and is exectutable mode 755. Is there something else I need to configure to get this working. I scheduled several recordings and they ran, but recorded only what was on the channel the cable box was already tuned to.

Also, can I use MyBalster.pl for channel surfing slow surfing within MythTV. Whenever I press the up-channel or down-channel buttons on my Hauppage remote, the channel of the PVR-350 card changes and that needs to remain on channel 4 always to get the input from the cable box. Can I modify my. mythtv/lircrc file to include a section for driving MyBlaster.pl from the remote.

By the way, the range on the MyBalster is pretty good. I bought a serial cable extension and placed the MyBalster device about 15 feet from the cable box and it changes the channels only from the command line again just fine.

Thanks in advance for your help.
